Djembe Communications co-hosted a business breakfast themed “Leveraging African Know-How in Switzerland” with the Swiss-African Business Circle (SABC), a network of Swiss companies and organizations active in Africa. The session emphasized how knowledge transfer, skills mobilization, and the experiences of both African managers and entrepreneurs based in Switzerland can dually benefit the operations of Swiss companies in Switzerland and in African countries.

In sharing best practices on leveraging African know-how, event speakers included two African experts from the energy and ICT sectors. Yvonne Bettkober, Director Enterprise Specialist Sales at Microsoft Switzerland spoke about her experience as an African executive in a multinational organization. Charles Thiemele, Head of Africa Trading Desk at AOT Energy, provided insights on how to apply regional expertise towards growing a company’s African business operations. Together, these speakers highlighted the role of the African diaspora across Swiss corporate environments.

A condensed report is available here, highlighting key takeaways from the day’s discussions.

Having worked extensively with private, government and public sector organizations in Africa for several years, Djembe Communications has gained a deep understanding of both the challenges and opportunities of doing business in Africa.

Our first research report, entitled “Job Creation in Sub-Saharan Africa: Entrepreneurs. Governments. Innovation”, sheds light on which particular industries are expected to create jobs and drive entrepreneurship in the region. The report also reveals what young Sub-Saharan Africans think about public policy, corruption, transparency and access to capital.
