Gaborone | Botswana, Monday, May 14, 2018: Djembe Communications has won the Best Media Relations Campaign award at  The Holmes Report’s SABRE Awards Africa 2018 for the Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) 2017 including the coveted runner up for ‘Best in Show’. Considered one of the most prestigious accolades in the PR industry, this category recognises firms for successfully using targeted media relations to achieve excellent results across the African continent.

The awards, run by The Holmes Report, celebrate Superior Achievement in Branding Reputation & Engagement (SABRE) from public relations companies and individuals throughout Africa.

Kevin Nolan, International Director for Djembe Communications, commented, “Our success in these awards reflects our ongoing commitment to making Djembe Communications a company that stands out not only as a creator of best in class client work but also as one of the most exciting places to work in our industry. We’re thrilled to be recognised for this by the SABRE Awards.”

Judges commended Djembe Communications for its media engagement for IPA across the continent, from October 2016 – July 2017, undertaking a fundamental review and recognizing the organization’s efforts in building and engaging audience groups via strategic media outreach. This was done through a thought leadership-based approach, using communication tools most intelligently keeping the client’s eclectic target groups well informed and constantly mobilized via strategic media outreach, roadshows, on-ground workshops, and media training sessions.

The winning campaign from Djembe led to the highest number of applications (more than 2,500) of all previous editions. It also saw the highest entries by African women innovators (482 representing around 19%) of overall applications and four of the final 10 nominees were women. Additionally, the Consultancy successfully secured 11 tier 1 media partnerships, generating over 1,600 media hits.

The winners received their trophies at the awards ceremony in Gaborone, Botswana on 10th May.
